Day 23: Courage to Connect

Challenge: Who is one person that you’ve been dying to connect with, but just haven’t had the courage to reach out to? First, reflect on why you want to get in touch with them. Then, reach out and set up a meeting.

While I've started seeking out environments where there are people doing what I'd like to do, and people I can learn from, I can't think of anyone in particular that I'm dying to connect with.

In the future, I imagine the possibility of attending conventions or artist workshops where I'll be able to meet people that I can get some great advice from. At the level I am now, though, I already know the advice they'd give. Keep drawing. It's the only advice to be given.

Sometimes I feel that the desire to talk to the people we admire is something of a fallacy. If you're at the level where you can ask relevant questions about technique, then maybe you'll learn great things from someone doing what you want to do. If you don't have a clear idea of what you're looking for, though, I feel like it's just seeking a magic bullet. You're hoping that person can give you the secret formula that will allow you to become like them.

There is no secret formula. There's work hard, persevere and enjoy the journey. I don't know anyone that I could seek out right now who would tell me any differently.
